Med mal suit aimed at ortho surgeon and medical practice

John B. Wood, M.D. and Southern Orthopedic Associates are being sued by Laura Schoon who claims her sciatic nerve was damaged during hip replacement surgery Nov. 29, 2005.

According to a lawsuit filed Nov. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Schoon suffered serious, painful and permanent injuries to her right foot due to defendants' alleged negligence.

Represented by Thomas Q. Keefe of Belleville, Schoon is seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages.

"Plaintiff has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement, has been permanently prevented from attending to her usual affairs and duties, lost wages and income, past, present, and future, and has incurred and become liable for large sums of money in hospital, medical, and related expenses, past, present, and future...," the complaint states.
