Alton sued by woman who tripped on sidewalk

A woman who tripped on an Alton sidewalk filed a personal injury suit against the city in Madison County Circuit Court Sept. 21, seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries she allegedly sustained.

Donna Pritzker claims she was walking southbound in the 2300 block of Washington Avenue in Alton on Sept. 29, 2006, when she tripped and fell because the sidewalk was uneven.

Represented by Todd Neilson of Granite City, Pritzker alleges Alton negligently and carelessly constructed the sidewalk located on Washington Avenue.

She also claims the city failed to provide signage or other appropriate warnings that the sidewalk was defective and unreasonably dangerous, failed to maintain the sidewalk and failed to inspect the sidewalk.

According to the complaint, Pritzker suffered severe and permanent injuries that caused extreme pain, lost wages and medical expenses.

She also claims she has been and will continue to be hindered from attending to her usual duties and affairs.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
