Robert Albrecht filed suit against Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home on behalf of Helen Albrecht in Madison County Circuit Court March 30, claiming the nursing home was negligent in her care.
Albrecht claims that on Sept. 5, 2005, Helen, who had recently undergone surgery to repair a hip fracture, was admitted to Jerseyville Manor for rehabilitation.
He claims that Helen was allowed to stand and transfer unassisted, when she was in no physical condition to do so, causing her to fall onto a shower chair with great force and violence, resulting in a re-fracture of her hip.
Albrecht claims the nursing home failed to properly notify and consult with Helen's doctor and next of kin regarding her fall, her injuries, and the significant deterioration in her physical status and failed to care for her in a manner which maintained and enhanced her dignity and quality of life.
He also alleges Jerseyville Manor failed to timely report the injury and neglect to the Department of Public Health, failed to employ sufficient staff to provide adequate medical or personal care which resulted in Helen's fall, and failed to provide Helen assistance and encouragement with safe ambulation and transfer activities.
Albrecht claims Helen suffered a marked deterioration of her prior physical condition causing her to suffer great pain and anguish, medical expenses and a severe and permanent disability.
Represented by Robert Gregory of East Alton, Albrecht is seeking monetary damages in excess of $50,000.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
