Argosy gambler slips and sues

Argosy

A gambler who injured herself at the Argosy Casino in Alton filed a personal injury suit in Madison County Circuit Court Jan. 9, claiming the casino was negligent and careless.

Verna Ballinger claims Argosy failed to provide proper lighting, failed to warn of a dangerous condition of water being on the floor and failed to properly maintain its floors.

She claims she was injured when she slipped and fell on a puddle of water near the ladies restroom on the ground floor of the landing on Oct. 22, 2006.

According to the suit, Ballinger sustained the following injuries and damages:

  • Injuries to her back, among other things;
  • Pain and suffering, past and future;
  • Medical expenses, past and future;
  • Loss of wages, past and future;
  • Disability, past and future; and
  • Diminution of earning capacity, past and future.

    Represented by Gerard B. Schneller of Holland, Groves, Schneller & Stolze of St. Louis, Ballinger is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs of the suit.

    The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
