Turnout low in ESL, high elsewhere

While reports out of East St. Louis indicate very light voter turnout, the opposite is true in other parts of the county.

In O'Fallon, for instance, turnout is brisk in many polling places.

O'Fallon Precinct 8 reported 560 of approximately 1,500 registered voters had cast ballots by 3:30 p.m.

In Precincts 9 and 16, approximately 30 percent turnout had been reached at 11 a.m.

In O'Fallon 1, 294 of 1,154 voters had voted by 3:30 p.m. In O'Fallon 4, 177 of 571 voters had voted by 3:30 p.m.

Lebanon 1 Precinct report 387 of 1,563 voters had voted by 3:30 p.m.

In East St. Louis, reports from several precincts show turnout at between 20 and 30 percent by 4:30 p.m.

An observer roaming polling places in Madison County said turnout appears heavier than anticipated there.

In Hamel, there was a line to vote.

In Edwardsville, the polls were crowded until about 10 a.m. but have slowed down.

Voter turnout in Godfrey and Highland als has been high.
