Godfrey convenience store's freshly mopped floor subject of suit

Melville Dairy Store in Godfrey

A man who claims he slipped and fell on a freshly mopped and soaking wet floor at Melville Dairy Store in Godfrey is seeking at least $50,000 for unspecified injuries.

James Ohley claims that on Dec. 10, 2003, he was entering the store on Delmar Avenue when the alleged incident took place.

Ohley filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court Dec. 2.

According to Ohley, Melville failed to exercise reasonable care for the safety of others by allowing the floor in the customer walkway area to remain wet and slippery, failed to warn him of the condition and failed to corner off the area where the floor had been recently mopped.

Ohley claims he suffered injuries which caused pain of the body and mind, medical expenses and lost sums of money he otherwise would have earned if he were able-bodied.

He is represented by Samuel Mormino of Alton.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron
