Highland woman sues motorist for strike at mailbox

Sandra Torluemke filed suit against Carol Hoffman in Madison County Circuit Court Sept. 12, alleging she was struck by Hoffman's vehicle on her way to the mailbox.

The incident took place on Daiber Road in Highland on Sept. 17, 2003.

Torluemke claims Hoffman failed to:

  • reduce her speed;
  • keep a proper lookout;
  • keep her vehicle under control; and
  • avoid a collision

    Hoffman also is accused of driving too fast.

    According to the complaint, Torluemke suffered extensive injuries to her neck, back and right arm along with injuries to her soft tissues of her cervical, thoracic and lumbar area, spent money on medical care, experienced pain and suffering and has suffered a disability and loss of a normal life.

    Represented by David Nelson and John Fredrick of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville, Torluemke is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries.

    The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge George Moran.
