Widow sues over husband's prostate cancer death

Failure to diagnose prostate cancer has led a widow to sue Staunton Family Practice and its physicians Rajneesh S. Jain, M.D., Manish Mathur, M.D. and Bryan Siegfried, M.D. in Madison County Circuit Court.

Dolores Ranger claims the doctors should have responded to her husband William Ranger's elevated prostate specific antigen (PSA) test level of 11.6 while he was under their care beginning in September of 2002.

According to the suit filed Aug. 23, Ranger was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Sept. 5, 2003. He died July 26.

Dolores Ranger also claims the doctors were negligent for not referring her husband to a specialist in time.

"As a direct and proximate result of the negligence and carelessness of the defendants...William Ranger died and his next of kin have been permanently deprived of his love, companionship, consortium and support," the suit claims.

The eight-count wrongful death suit seeks at least $600,000 in damages.

Ranger is represented by Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr. of Belleville.
