A case management conference is set for a "pothole" lawsuit against Granite City in Madison County Circuit Court Judge Andy Matoesian's courtroom at 9 a.m. on Aug. 24.

Jennifer Fowler, who tripped while walking down a Granite City street, claims the city is negligent for failing to warn pedestrians of a pothole near 691 Oaklawn.

According to a suit filed June 10 in Madison County Circuit Court, Fowler claims she seriously and permanently injured her ankle on July 1, 2004.

Fowler also alleges Granite City was negligent by failing to provide a safe place for pedestrians to walk and failing to maintain the roadway.

Represented by Kirk Caponi of Belleville, Fowler is seeking at least $50,000 in damages for the injuries she allegedly sustained.

In addition to physical injuries, Fowler claims she suffered mental anguish, lost wages and has become liable for medical expenses.

Granite City is represented by Ronald Roth of Roth & Evans of Granite City.
