Uneven sidewalk in Belleville subject of suit

Belleville City Hall

A Caseyville woman who claims she suffered severe and permanent injuries after tripping on an uneven portion of a sidewalk in Belleville is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

In a suit filed July 27 against the city, Rebecca Origliosso alleges that on Aug. 12, 2004, she was walking north on North 1st between East Main and West A streets when she tripped on a large, uneven portion of the sidewalk causing her to fall to the concrete.

Origliosso claims the city permitted a public sidewalk to remain in a broken condition, failed to make repairs to the sidewalk and failed to warn the public of the dangerous condition of the public sidewalk.

According to the complaint, Origliosso suffered internal and external injuries to her body. It also claims numerous parts of her nervous system were injured, she endured great pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages, and has become liable for large sums of money in medical expenses.

Origliosso is represented by Collinsville attorney Steven Giacoletto.
