Doctor sued for dog attack

4817 D'Adrian

Another Metro-East doctor was hit with a Madison County lawsuit, but not for allegations of medical malpractice.

Sheryl Adams claims she was attacked by Edward Cornell, M.D.'s dog while walking her friend's dog in a Godfrey neighborhood on June 14, 2004. The suit was filed on May 13.

Seeking damages in excess of $50,000, Adams claims the incident made her sick, sore, lame and disordered. She is represented by Lon Weaver of East Alton.

"While walking her friend's dog, a dog that was not leashed came running out of the property located at 4817 D'Adrian...and jumped up and on plaintiff knocking her to the ground," the complaint states.

The suit was filed pursuant to the Illinois Animal Control Act.

Among the various damages suffered, Adams states she has "expended large sums of money to cure herself of her injuries and will be required to expend large sums of money to cure herself of her injuries in the future."

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge George Moran Jr.
