Oliver Adams filed a Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) suit in Madison County Circuit Court March 15 claiming that he was permanently injured while working as a Norfolk Southern Railway trackman for 32 years.
Represented by Gregory Tobin of East Alton, Adams is seeking more than $50,000 and all costs of the suit. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Philip Kardis in Granite City.
Adams claims that between 1968 and 2000 he was injured due to numerous repetitive traumas while repairing railroad tracks for Norfolk throughout their railroad system, including Madison County.
He states Norfolk did not provide him with a safe place to work, adequate training or equipment.
As a result of Norfolk's alleged negligence, Adams claims he sustained severe and permanent injuries to his neck, spine, knees and body, all of which have and will cause him to suffer great pain and mental anguish.
Adams also claims he lost earning potential and is obligated for costly medical expenses as a result of his injuries.
