Driver alleges injuries in rear-end crash

A Madison County resident is suing a driver for allegedly causing a rear-end collision.

Ute S. Woods filed a lawsuit on May 12 in Madison County Circuit Court against Tiffany Y. Knighton, alleging negligence in a February 2014 collision.

According to the complaint, the defendant was driving a vehicle belonging to Cornelious Elliott in an eastbound direction on the Landmarks Boulevard near the intersection of Clark Bridge in the city of Alton on or about Feb. 18, 2014. The plaintiff was allegedly preparing to turn left onto Clark Bridge.

The suit alleges the defendant collided with the plaintiff in a rear-end impact. Knighton is accused of failing to maintain a reasonable speed, reduce speed in accordance with traffic conditions, keep a proper and sufficient lookout for other automobiles on the road and control her vehicle.

Woods contends that she has sustained serious and disabling injuries, citing pain, suffering, and emotional anguish; lost wages and earning capacity; impairment, disability and disfigurement; and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs. She is represented by Gregory Abel, Julie Blanks and Craig Queen of Hausmann-McNally in Decatur, Ill.
