Man sues hotel after allegedly falling in shower area

A man alleges he sustained injuries when he slipped while attempting to exit a hotel shower.

Melvin MacFarlane filed a lawsuit Dec. 29 in Madison County Circuit Court against Tall Brothers Incorporated, Motel 6 Collinsville, Kirit Patel, America's Best Value Inn, Motel 6, G6 Hospitality and Bansri Hospitality.

According to the complaint, MacFarlane was staying at the Collinsville Motel 6 on Jan. 4, 2013, and was attempting to step out of the shower when he slipped on the floor and fell, hitting the toilet and the side of the shower. Because of his fall, MacFarlane sustained physical injuries to his head, back and neck; endured pain and suffering; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

MacFarlane names the hotel as a defendant, saying it negligently failed to remedy the dangerous condition, failed to provide slip guards, failed to provide a slip resistant surface, failed to repair the surface of the shower, failed to warn of the slippery surface and failed to reasonably inspect its premises, among other acts.

MacFarlane seeks a judgment of more than $700,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Attorney John C. Webster, of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton, will represent MacFarlane.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1777.
