Man alleges injuries after fall in Walmart bathroom

A man has filed suit against Walmart after he alleges he slipped on a wet floor after entering the men's restroom.

Stacey Mims says he was shopping at Walmart on Nov. 9, 2013, when he slipped on water that had accumulated on the men's restroom floor.

Because of his fall, Mims sustained injuries to his back, neck and spine, suffered great physical pain and experienced a diminished ability to work, according to the complaint filed Dec. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. He also incurred medical costs and lost wages, the suit states.

Walmart negligently failed to remove the water, failed to adequately warn of the slip hazard, failed to train its employees on the proper method to clean, failed to place mats or slip resistance surfaces on the floor, failed to barricade the area of water and failed to exercise due care, the complaint says.

Mims seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. Attorney Michael P. Hickey, of Brown and Crouppen in St. Louis, will represent Mims.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-788.
