An Alton resident alleges he was forced to seek medical care from different providers after he fell on ice outside of Panera Bread.
Jeffrey Pfeifer filed a lawsuit Nov. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Streamco, Panera Bread Company and Total Lot Maintenance Company.
In his complaint, Pfeifer alleges he was exiting his parked vehicle and attempting to enter the Panera Bread at 1837 Homer M. Adams Parkway in Alton on Dec. 20, 2012, when he fell on a thin, clear sheet of ice on the sidewalk outside the restaurant's entrance.
Because of his fall, Pfeifer suffered serious and severe personal injuries, incurred medical costs and has been unable to live in the manner in which he had been accustomed prior to the fall, according to the complaint. In addition, his ability to work his been diminished and he has lost income, the suit states.
Pfeifer blames the defendants for causing his fall, saying they negligently failed to maintain their premises in a safe condition, allowed ice to accumulate on the sidewalk, failed to remove ice from their sidewalk, failed to provide a safe entrance and exit and failed to give adequate warning.
Pfeifer seeks a judgment of more than $200,000, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
