A postal worker alleges he sustained knee and hip injuries when a driver struck him as he was crossing the street.
Douglas A. Pashea filed a lawsuit Nov. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court against Antoinette K. Stanford.
In his complaint, Pashea says he was working for the U.S. Postal Service on Nov. 4, 2012, and was crossing the street in Bethalto when a Ford Explorer, which Stanford was driving at the intersection of West Central Street and North Walnut Street, failed to yield at a stop sign and struck him.
In addition to his injuries, Pashea incurred medical costs, lost wages and endured mental pain and anguish because of the collision, according to the complaint. He also fears that he will lose his job.
"The plaintiff is under a temporary employment contract," the suit states. "Should he miss work for any reason, the plaintiff feels his employment is in jeopardy of non-renewal."
Pashea blames Stanford for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout for pedestrians, failed to sound her horn to provide warning, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control and failed to obey traffic laws.
Pashea seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
