A man has filed suit against the medicine shop that he alleges released his confidential medical information.
Billy R. Rigsby Jr. alleges he was a customer of defendant Medicine Shoppe International to provide his pharmaceutical needs.
On Jan. 10, one of the store's employees accessed Rigsby's confidential, private information and shared certain contents of his prescription history to defendants Platt Marine Service and Tonkin and Mondi, according to the complaint filed Nov. 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
"As a provider of pharmaceutical services, defendant Medicine Shoppe International owes a non-delegable duty to its customers to protect the privacy and confidentiality of its customers' pharmaceutical information and prescription histories," the suit states.
Because of the store employee's actions, Rigsby lost more than $100,000, the complaint says.
In his complaint, Rigsby seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs, interest, attorney fees and other relief the court deems just.
Stegmeyer and Stegmeyer of Belleville will represent Rigsby.
