Driver blamed for following too closely, causing ESL accident

A man says he suffered pain after a driver failed to maintain a proper lookout and struck his vehicle.

Robert Quirin filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Douglas Mealy.

In his complaint, Quirin alleges he was driving on Fourth Street in East St. Louis on Jan. 24 when Mealy failed to keep a proper lookout and struck his vehicle.

Due to the collision, Quirin experienced pain and suffering, endured disability and disfigurement and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. He also lost income and his normal life and incurred property damages, the suit states.

Quirin blames Mealy for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, followed Quirin's vehicle too closely, failed to reduce his speed to avoid an accident and drove too fast.

In his complaint, Quirin seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Daniel K. Juncker of Belleville will represent him.

The St. Clair County Circuit Court case number is 14-L-599.
