West Broadway accident leads to injuries and suit

A woman claims she sustained permanent injuries when a driver failed to yield the right-of-way and struck her vehicle.

Bonita Markham of Jerseyville filed a lawsuit Aug. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Michelle Sinclair of Wood River.

In her complaint, Markham alleges she was driving her 2003 Saturn west on West Broadway on Aug. 16, 2013, when Sinclair, who was entering the road from a parking lot on the north side of the 200 block of West Broadway, struck her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Markham incurred medical costs and was prevented from attending to her usual duties, according to the complaint.

Markham blames Sinclair for causing her injuries, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to exercise proper control of her vehicle and failed to yield the right-of-way.

Markham seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is being represented by attorney Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-1073.
