Collinsville accident is subject of suit

A man claims a driver caused him to sustain injuries when she collided with his vehicle in the midst of a turn.

Norvell J. Green filed a lawsuit June 23 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Hallie D. Godsey and Vickie L. Schuman.

In his complaint, Green alleges he was driving north on Highway 157 in Collinsville on June 25, 2012, when Godsey, who was driving south on Main Street, attempted to execute a left-hand turn. In the middle of the turn, Godsey struck Green’s vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Green suffered serious and permanent bodily injuries and experienced pain, discomfort and mental anguish, the suit states. He also lost his normal life, incurred medical costs and was restricted from participating in his normal activities, the complaint says.

Green blames Godsey for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to see things that were visible, failed to keep her vehicle under control to avoid a collision, failed to use every precaution to avoid a collision, failed to drive at a proper speed, failed to decrease her speed and failed to exercise caution.

In addition to Godsey, Green names Schuman as a defendant, saying she negligently allowed Godsey to drive her vehicle when she should have known Godsey would drive in a reckless, careless or incompetent manner.

Green seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Edward T. McCarthy of McCarthy and Allen in Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-905.
