A woman accuses the city of Belleville for causing her to fall after leaving a metal object in her path on the sidewalk.

Carolyn Cooper filed a lawsuit June 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the city of Belleville, Arthur Lamora and Pok Lamora.

In her complaint, Cooper alleges she was walking on a sidewalk near the intersection of North 27th Street and West Main Street in Belleville on June 7, 2013, when she tripped over a piece of metal protruding from the left edge of the sidewalk.

Because of her fall, Cooper suffered wrist, hand, knee and head injuries, incurred medical costs and suffered great pain and physical impairment, according to the complaint.

Cooper blames the city for causing her injuries, saying the city negligently failed to completely remove the metal from the ground, failed to place a caution sign around the metal object and failed to warn Cooper of the dangerous condition. She also names the Lamoras as defendants, saying they own the property at 2533 W. Main St. where her fall occurred.

Cooper is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus other relief the court deems just. She is being represented by Chet A. Kelly of Williams, Caponi and Foley in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-481.
