Locomotive engineer sues Union Pacific over job related trauma

A Union Pacific Railroad Company employee is suing after suffering injuries from job related trauma.

Joseph L. Gordon filed a lawsuit May 7 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Company, citing negligence.

Gordon claims he worked for the defendant as a conductor for 17 years. The suit alleges that Gordon's employer required him to jump off a moving locomotive onto the ground, resulting in injuries to his left hip caused by the repetitive trauma from hitting the ground. According to the complaint, the defendant required Gordon to exit moving railroad equipment onto rough terrain, failed to provide a safe working environment and failed to warn Gordon of the potentially dangerous conditions.

Gordon is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and court costs. He is being represented by attorneys David R. Jones of Beatty, Motil and Jones and Bob L. Perica of Perica Law Firm.

St. Clair Circuit Court case numbers 14L321.
