Route 157 rear end accident causes injuries, suit claims

A woman has filed suit against the driver she claims rear-ended her vehicle.

Cheryl Howell filed suit April 3 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Ali Olcen.

claims she was driving south on South State Route 157 near its intersection with South University in Madison County on April 23, 2012, when the defendant, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of Howell’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Howell suffered head, neck, back, shoulder, hip and right hand injuries, suffered severe pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also suffered from an impaired ability to work and enjoy her ordinary pursuits of life, the complaint says.

Howell blames Olcen for causing the collision, saying she negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a careful watch, failed to stop to avoid a collision, failed to yield to Howell’s vehicle, followed Howell’s vehicle too closely and drove too fast.

Howell is seeking compensatory damages of more than $50,000, plus pre-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, costs and other relief the court deems just. She is being represented by Todd W. Sivia of Sivia Business and Legal Services in Edwardsville and Reiad M. Khouri of Khouri Law Firm in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-520.
