Route 161 accident causes injuries, suit says

A woman has filed suit against the driver she claims struck her vehicle.

Lakiesha L. Thomas and Avonjana Moore-Thomas filed suit March 24 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Laurie A. Caringer.

According to the complaint, Lakiesha was driving west on Illinois Route 161 in St. Clair County on Oct. 7, and was entering its intersection with West Boulevard when Caringer struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Lakiesha sustained serious and permanent injuries to her neck, back, arms and head and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Caringer negligently violated a red traffic light, failed to keep a careful lookout, failed to yield the right-of-way and failed to use the highest degree of care, the suit states.

In addition to Lakiesha, Avonjana Moore-Thomas is named as a plaintiff in the complaint, saying she incurred property damages of $2,392.56.

The plaintiffs are seeking a judgment of more than $52,392.56, plus pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just. They are being represented by Robert J. Radice and Michelle E. Radice of Horas and Radice in St. Louis.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-238.
