The parents of a minor have filed suit against the driver they claim rear-ended their vehicle while they were waiting at a red light.
Lauri S. and Jacob B. Paitz, individually and as the parents of Audrey L. Paitz, filed suit March 31 in Madison County Circuit Court against Amanda L. Coleman.
According to the complaint, Jacob B. Paitz was driving south on Highway 157 near its intersection with Main Street in Glen Carbon on Aug. 23, when Jacob B. Paitz stopped for a red light. Suddenly, Coleman, who was driving south on Highway 157 behind the Paitzes, struck the back of their vehicle, according to the complaint.
At the time of the collision, Lauri S. Paitz and their minor child, were riding in the vehicle with Jacob B. Paitz.
Due to the collision, the Paitzs suffered severe and bodily injuries, incurred medical costs, lost wages and suffered disability, the suit states. They also suffered impairment and endured scarring and mental anguish, the complaint says.
The Paitzs blame Coleman for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, followed another vehicle too closely, failed to obey a traffic control device, failed to give an audible warning, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and drove under the influence of drugs.
The Paitzes are seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs. They are being represented by Brian M. Wendler of Wendler Law in Edwardsville.
