Minor girl suffered injuries in collision, lawsuit claims

The mother of a minor child claims her daughter sustained back injuries after a driver struck the vehicle in which she was riding.

Colleen Wilkerson filed a lawsuit March 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court on behalf of her minor daughter, Brieana Wilkerson, against Patricia Pelo.

In her complaint, Colleen Wilkerson alleges Brieana Wilkerson was riding in a 2001 Buick Lesabre Thelma Hudlin drove north on West Street in Edwardsville on March 22, 2012. Suddenly, Pelo, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, attempted to exit a parking lot at 629 W. Schwarz St. in Edwardsville when she struck the vehicle in which Brieana Wilkerson was riding, according to the complaint.

In addition to her back injuries, Brieana Wilkerson suffered physical and mental paid, incurred medical costs and lost money, the suit states.

Colleen Wilkerson blames Pelo for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to brake in time to avoid a collision and failed to steer to avoid a collision.

Colleen Wilkerson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Samuel A. Mormino Jr. of Mormino, Velloff and Snider in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-449.
