Steak N' Shake blamed for woman's shoulder, knee, back and hip injuries

A woman claims she suffered shoulder, knee, back and hip injuries after she fell on a wet floor at a Steak N’ Shake restaurant.

Donna Martin filed a lawsuit March 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Steak N’ Shake.

In her complaint, Martin claims she was walking to the women’s restroom at the restaurant on March 16, 2012, when she slipped on water that had accumulated on the floor.

Because of her fall, Martin became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, sustained shoulder, knee, back and hip injuries, incurred medical costs, suffered disability and experienced pain and suffering, according to the complaint.

Martin blames Steak N’ Shake for causing her fall, saying it failed to manage and clean its premises in a safe way, failed to have a safe procedure for cleaning water, failed to provide a safe ingress and egress, failed to provide a safe place for Martin to use and allowed its premises to become dangerous, among other negligent acts.

Martin is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Michael Gras of the Law Office of Christopher Cueto in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-193.
