A woman has filed suit against her insurance company, alleging it refuses to reimburse her for injuries she sustained during a collision.
Alberta L. Wilson filed suit Feb. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Universal Casualty Company.
According to the complaint, Wilson was riding in a 2007 Saturn Aura that Kennetta Harris was driving west on Industrial Parkway in Sauget on Jan. 21, 2009. When Harris stopped for traffic, Nundi M. Vaughn, who was driving a 1999 Pontiac behind Wilson, rear-ended Harris’s vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Wilson suffered various injuries, was hindered from attending to her usual affairs and suffered a great deal of anguish and lost money, the suit states. She also incurred medical costs, the complaint says.
At the time of the collision, Nundi M. Vaughn did not have insurance. Wilson had an insurance policy through defendant Universal Casualty Company, which was supposed to provide compensation for injuries sustained at the hands of an uninsured driver of up to $40,000 per occurrence. She attempted to file for benefits from UCC, but the insurance company refuses to pay her, Wilson claims.
Wilson is seeking attorneys’ fees, costs and the lesser of either 60 percent of the amount the court finds Wilson entitled to recover or $60,000.
