A jury is being picked in Madison County for a case involving injuries suffered in an alleged attack at an Alton bar.

Thomas Garrett filed a Dram Shop suit against Wild Duck Saloon in 2012 claiming he was assaulted there by an alleged intoxicated person on Oct. 9, 2011. Garrett says he received serious injuries to his head that caused bleeding in his brain.

Garrrett contends Wild Duck Saloon violated the Dramshop Act by serving his alleged assailant to the point of intoxication. He also accuses the bar of negligence for the same reason. Garrett is asking for more than $100,000 in damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses and disability.

Attorney Michael R. Glisson of Alton is representing Garrett.

Voir dire is expected to continue through the afternoon in Circuit Judge William Mudge’s court.
