Madison County property owners can pay taxes online

To the Editor:

We want the public to know that if they are unable to make it into the Madison County Treasurer's office due to bad weather there is still a way for them to pay their taxes before they would be sold during the tax sale and stay safe from the elements of the cold and snow.

Property owners have until 4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 to pay their taxes to avoid them being sold at the tax sale, which will start at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 in the Madison County Board room.

Illinois law provides that just prior to the tax sale, payments should be made in the treasurer’s office with cash, certified funds or money order.

Taxpayers also have until 11:59 p.m., Feb. 11 to make payments online using immediate ACH.

Credit card payments are also accepted online, however the credit card companies and processors require a additional 2.35 percent service fee. The county does not receive any portion of the service fee.
