Memorial Physical Therapy named in new suit

A man who suffered a severe infection following hip surgery blames doctors at Memorial Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab—East Belleville for causing his injuries.

Gilbert and Jamie Davenport filed a lawsuit Dec. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Memorial Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab.

In their complaint, the Davenports allege Gilbert Davenport's therapists at Memorial treated him after he endured a left hip replacement surgery on Dec. 8, 2011. During the recovery period, Gilbert developed an advanced infection at the surgical site, according to the complaint.

Because of the infection, Gilbert Davenport was forced to undergo an additional surgery, was placed on long-term antibiotics, was forced to have his original prosthetic removed and a new one implanted and endured pain, the suit states. He also missed work, incurred medical costs and suffered disability and disfigurement, the complaint says.

Jamie Davenport, who was married to Gilbert at the time of the incident, claims she lost her husband’s companionship, society and support.

In their complaint, the Davenports seek an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

Roy C. Dripps of Armbruster, Dripps, Winterscheidt and Blotevogel in Alton will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-603.
