Driver made improper left turn resulting in accident and injuries, suit says

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims attempted to turn left in front of her, colliding with the front of her vehicle.

Alicia Kirkland claims she was driving south on Frank Scott Parkway about 800 feet north on Illinois 15 in Belleville on Sept. 10, 2013, at about 8:31 a.m. when defendant Paula J. Fuhler, who was driving in the same direction, attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of Kirkland.

Instead, Fuhler struck the front end of Kirkland’s vehicle, causing Fuhler to become sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and to receive injuries to her neck, back, left knee and shoulders, according to the complaint filed Nov. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Fuhler also incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and endured an impaired earning capacity, the suit states.

Kirkland blames Fuhler for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply her brakes, drove too fast, struck the front of Kirkland’s vehicle, made a left turn without using a turn signal and drove without adequate brakes, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Kirkland is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

John H. Hustava of Collinsville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-588.
