Beer Barrel Pub sued over alleged drunken attack

A man has filed suit against the bar where he claims he was attacked by a drunken patron.

Kerry W. Lahr claims he was visiting defendant Beer Barrel Pub at 7205 Montclair Ave. in Godfrey on March 31 when defendant Jody Dwiggins attacked him. Dwiggins attacked Lahr after defendant Holger Happel served Dwiggins liquor that caused him to be intoxicated, according to the complaint filed Dec. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the assault, Lahr suffered extensive injuries to his face and head, lost his earning capacity, experienced pain and suffering and incurred medical costs, the suit states. He also suffered disability and disfigurement and lost wages, the complaint says.

Lahr blames Happel and Beer Barrel Pub for causing his injuries, saying he negligently allowed violent individuals to remain on the tavern, failed to remove Dwiggins from the tavern, failed to call law enforcement to come to Lahr’s aid after Dwiggins began attacking him and failed to help Lahr.

In his complaint, Lahr is seeking a judgment of more than $75,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Lahr will be represented by Roy C. Dripps of Armbruster, Dripps, Winterscheidt and Blotevogel in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-2022.
