A mother is suing a hospital and five doctors, claiming their negligence led to her son's death.
Ollena Moore, as personal representative of the estate of William “Eric” Moore, deceased, filed a lawsuit on May 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Touchette Regional Hospital, Dr. James Probst, Dr. Christopher Johnson, Dr. Bassam Albarcha and Dr. John M. Megner, all of East St. Louis, and Dr. Chennaiah Nadindla of St. Louis, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on May 21, 2013, the plaintiff’s son, William “Eric” Moore, was involuntarily admitted to the Touchette Regional Hospital’s behavioral health unit with symptoms of psychosis and remained voluntarily hospitalized May 24, 2013, and thereafter.
The suit states Eric Moore was on both Zyprexa and Risperdal, anti-psychotic prescription medications associated with a high risk of a side effect of VTE (venous thromboembolism), and the standard of care requires monitoring patients for early detection of VTE.
The plaintiff alleges the decedent developed an impaired gait and complained of knee pain, tenderness and limited range of motion beginning May 24, 2013, which escalated to an inability to walk. Then on May 25, Moore said he had no feeling in his legs. By May 27, he requested an MRI because something was “happening to his body,” the suit states.
The complaint states Moore, under all the defendants’ care at the time, was not given a physical exam May 24, 2013, or thereafter and that he died of a massive pulmonary embolus on May 27, 2013.
The plaintiff accuses the defendant of wrongful death and negligence and seeks reimbursement of medical bills, funeral and burial costs.
Ollena Moore seeks damages in excess of $75,000, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Ross Anderson of East St. Louis.
