A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle as she slowed for construction.
Young S. Choe claims she was driving her 2012 Hyundai east on Interstate 270 near mile post 2 in Madison County on Dec. 11 when she had to stop because of construction. Suddenly, defendant Adam C. Shaffer, who was driving behind her, failed to stop and struck the back of her vehicle, according to the complaint filed July 16 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Because of the collision, Choe sustained trauma to her ribs and left knee; endured neck, hip and back pain; and experienced swelling in her left forearm, the suit states. She also incurred medical costs of more than $30,000, incurred property damages and experienced an impaired ability to enjoy life, the complaint says.
Choe blames Shaffer for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive at a reasonable speed, drove in an unsafe manner, drove too closely to Choe’s vehicle, failed to maintain his brakes and failed to keep his vehicle under proper control.
In her complaint, Choe is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Bill T. Walker and Erin M. Doyle of Granite City will be representing her.
