Man claims he lost job after filing for work comp benefits

A man claims he lost his job as a truck driver after he filed for workers’ compensation benefits.

Kenneth Andrews filed a lawsuit April 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Verlan Funk Trucking Company.

In his complaint, Andrews alleges he was working for Verlan on Jan. 26, 2012, when he sustained injuries. After attempting to file for workers’ compensation benefits, however, Andrews lost his job, according to the complaint.

Because of his job loss, Andrews lost his income and benefits, sustained damage to his reputation and sustained mental anguish, the suit states.

In his two-count complaint, Andrews is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-169.
