A Madison County woman is suing a Maryville hospital and doctor after she was allegedly hurt by a procedure intended to treat incontinence.

Susan Tallerico and her husband, Richard, filed the lawsuit Sept. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Southwestern Illinois Health Facilities Inc., doing business as Anderson Hospital, and Dr. Travis L. Bullock. American Medical Systems Inc. is also named as a defendant.

According to the complaint, Susan Tallerico went to Anderson Hospital to seek treatment for urinary incontinence in September 2009. She claims she was treated by Dr. Bullock who allegedly improperly implanted surgical mesh, known as Monarc, into her uterus. Monarc is manufactured by American Medical Systems (AMS).

Tallerico alleges the implant caused her numerous medical issues.

The Tallericos accuse Anderson Hospital, Dr. Bullock and AMS of negligence and claim they are responsible for more than $200,000 in damages for medical bills, loss of consortium and court costs.

Attorneys Michael J. Aschenbrener of Chicago and Mark R. Mueller of Austin, Texas, are representing the Tallericos. They ask for a jury trial.
