An East St. Louis man claims he sustained multiple lacerations to his face and arms after a pit bull attacked him.
Larry J. Blanchard Sr. filed a lawsuit Jan. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Michael K. Suggs, V’Nicia L. Keel and Willie B. Sledge.
Blanchard claims the attack happened on Nov. 19 at 1376 North 35th St. in East St. Louis after Suggs and Keel failed to properly contain their pit bulls.
“Defendant’s pit bull dogs attacked, struck down, bit, and chewed plaintiff severely injuring plaintiff as hereinafter alleged, all of which was without provocation by plaintiff,” the suit states.
As a result of the attack, Blanchard suffered multiple lacerations to his face and arms resulting in permanent scarring and suffered great pain, according to the complaint. In addition, he incurred significant medical costs, the complaint says.
Blanchard blames Suggs and Keel for allowing the attack to occur, saying they negligently allowed the pit bulls to be inadequately secured, failed to warn Blanchard of the dogs’ vicious nature and failed to control the dogs.
Blanchard also names the owner of the premises, Larry J. Blanchard, as a defendant, alleging negligence.
In his five-count complaint, Blanchard seeks a judgment of more than $250,000, plus costs.
Daniel L. Bradley and Rebecca L. Van Court of DeFranco and Bradley in Swansea will be representing him.
