City worker sues Madison and mayor after termination

9/4/2008 1:16 PM

A city worker has filed a wrongful termination complaint against the City of Madison and John Hamm III, claiming he was fired after a relationship with his co-worker deteriorated and for exercising his right to claim worker's compensation.

According to a suit filed Sept. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court, Steven Skoklo claims he had relations with Beth Hamm and a child was born.

He claims Beth Hamm was related to John Hamm III, mayor of Madison, and was also an employee of the city.

He claims he was told there was no light duty available for him after his relationship with Beth Hamm deteriorated.

Skoklo also claims he was pushing a six-yard heavy container 180 degrees when he injured his back Aug. 10, 2007.

He claims he was fired Sept. 19, 2007, after claiming worker's compensation.

He claims he has suffered damages, including a loss of hourly wages, health insurance, benefits and seniority.

In the two-count suit, Skoklo is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000.

He is represented by Morgan Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office.
