Driver accused of rear-end crash at 60 miles per hour

An Edwardsville man who was allegedly traveling 60 miles per hour on an East St. Louis city street when he rear-ended a stopped vehicle is being sued.

Antwyne Warren, Demonta Warren and Brandy Collins filed suit against Christopher Brammeier on Feb. 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

The suit claims that Collins was operating a Dodge Avenger and was stopped at a stop sign on northbound 8th Street at Piggot Avenue on March 13, 2014. Brammeier was operating a Volkswagen Jetta northbound on 8th Street "at a speed of approximately 60 miles per hour and closing upon the Dodge Avenger," the suit says.

Brammeier failed to stop and rear-ended Collins' vehicle at a high rate of speed, the suit says.

He also is accused of fleeing the scene on foot "notwithstanding the catastrophic impact and without regard for the safety and well-being of those he had injured who required emergency medical care."

"The force of the collision was so significant, Plaintiff's (Antwyne Warren) head slammed into and broke the Avenger's rear windshield," the suit says.

Brammeier is accused of operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The plaintiffs were transported to the hospital following the accident. Each plaintiff claims head, neck, back, hip and nerve injuries.

Each plaintiff seeks in excess of $50,000 in damages.

They are represented by Michael McGlynn of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-92.
