Troy ZX blamed for customer's fall on ice

A woman is suing a gas station after slipping and falling on ice.

Melissa Barton filed a lawsuit Jan. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against J.D. Streett & Company Inc., doing business as Troy ZX, and Rita Abernathy, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 18, 2012, Barton was at the defendant's gas station at 437 Edwardsville Road in Troy when she slipped and fell, causing an injury. She claims she slipped due to an unnatural accumulation of ice that had fallen from a defective gas aisle overhang.

Barton is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

She is being represented in the case by attorneys D. Jeffrey Ezra and Robert B. Ramsey of Ezra & Associates LLC.
