Karmeier retention committee brings in $39K; Harrison has raised $17,000 since July

Here's a roundup of recent fundraising activity in judicial contests

Illinoisans for Karmeier:

Justice Lloyd Karmeier, seeking retention to another 10-year term on the Illinois Supreme Court, established a campaign committee Aug. 20 and in about three weeks has raised $39,000.

According to records online at the Illinois State Board of Elections, Karmeier's largest contribution - $10,000 - came from Knight Hawk Coak of Percy.

His committee also received $5,000 contributions from Citizens for Dave Luechtefeld, Citizens for Dale A. Righter, Steve Carter of Longboat Key, Fla. and from Karmeier himself.

It also received $2,000 from Michael Welge of Chester and $1,000 from both Citizens for Watson and Citizens for Kyle McCarter.

Citizens for Clarence Harrison:

Since late July, Harrison's committee has received $17,000 in five separate contributions exceeding $1,000.

Of that total, asbestos firms contributed $10,000 - the Simmons firm of Alton and Shrader and Associates of Houston each gave $5,000.

Injury firms Becker, Schroader and Chapman of Granite City gave $5,000 and Schoen Walton Telken and Foster of East St. Louis gave $1,000.

Highland Manufacturing gave $1,000.

Harrison, who serves as associate judge, is seeking the circuit court seat that had been held by former judge Ann Callis. Callis stepped down last year to run for Congress.

Harrison, a Democrat, is running against St. Jacob attorney John Barberis, a Republican.

So far, Barberis has not established a campaign committee under his name.
